When choosing your wedding flowers, it’s not only about picking blooms that complement your choice of wedding dress and overall wedding theme, but it’s also important to consider whether they’re even available. Here’s a list of wedding flowers by season in Australia.
While certain blooms such as roses are available all year round, most flowers are only available during particular months and seasons. In some cases, however, it is possible to import flowers that aren’t in season from another region or country.
Importing flowers that aren’t in season in Australia is not possible for all flowers, and can sometimes be a costly exercise, so it’s important you consult your florist to see what your best options are. Sometimes your florist may be able to suggest a flower that is very similar in appearance, but won’t cost as much as it’s imported lookalike.
To help you better understand which flowers are available the month of your wedding, here is a list of some of the most popular wedding flowers based on availability by season. Just keep in mind, that, depending on the climate in your state, many may be available a little earlier or, even, a little later than their standard seasons.

Summer: January
Hydrangeas, Lotus Flowers, Kangaroo Paw, Phaleanopsis Orchids, Alliums
Many brides shy away from the Hydrangea because of its age, however, if you’re after a ‘something blue’ bridal bouquet, a skilled florist can make this bloom truly shine.
The Lotus Flower in white, lemon and pink is only available in January, but, with its oriental aesthetic it can look quite stunning as a bridal bouquet.
The Kangaroo Paw is ideal for a wildflower or native bridal bouquet, and this flower’s wide range of colours provides brides with so much choice.

If you want a striking floral bouquet then Zinnias will deliver some visual drama with their dome-shaped petals and smorgasbord of bright colours.
Delphiniums are flowers which have elegant long stems, delicately shaped petals and come in beautiful shades of blue.

Tulips look beautiful when open or slightly opening and their bright colours make for an eye-catching floral arrangement. Lisianthus have a simple and traditional look about them, and their soft fluffy white blooms and elegant stems create a romantic feel.

Calla Lilies are elegant, simple and sophisticated. Their dark green long stems contrast well against soft wedding dress fabrics such as silk or satin.

Ranunculus come in different shades or pink, purple and yellow and have a relatively large head. Daphnes are very small flowers and have a strong scent.
